A call for greater integration of SEL into daily educational practices
This article, published in 2012, proposes that new perspectives in the teaching of SEL, and a deeper integration of SEL and educational practice is needed to bring about greater effects from SEL interventions. The authors make the case for schools to go beyond a ‘traditional’ implementation of SEL programs, and focus on integrating the teaching and supporting of SEL skills into daily interaction with students. A review of current programmatic approaches to SEL is provided, along with an organizing framework for SEL. Principles and strategies are suggested for creating a more seamless integration of SEL into educational practice.
